Google replaces Gemini Gems with Skills

Google is retiring its Gemini Gems custom assistants and replacing them with a new feature called Skills, which allows users to invoke instruction files directly within active chats. The author tested migrating existing Claude Code skills into Gemini, finding that manual or file-based uploads work smoothly after minor rewrites for chat-based research.
