HRL Laboratories develops AutoCal MEMS IMU for GPS-free navigation

HRL Laboratories has developed a soup-can-sized inertial measurement unit (IMU) using micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) to provide an uninterruptible navigation alternative to GPS. To overcome the traditional limitation of bias drift, the team engineered AutoCal, an automatic self-calibrating system that continuously isolates and removes false inertial signals.
