Skywalker Sound launches MCCL PyTorch MPS backend

Researchers introduce the Metal Communication Collective Library (MCCL), an open-source MPS backend designed for multi-node PyTorch training across fleets of Mac Studios over switched Ethernet. Evaluations across 24 nodes demonstrate high TCP goodput and parallel efficiency during Vision Transformer training, showing that idle Mac infrastructure can be repurposed for distributed machine learning workloads.
