AI repo waves on GitHub since 2023, and what is left of them

An analysis of over 8,000 AI repositories created on GitHub since January 2023 with more than 300 stars reveals that only 39 percent of 2023 repositories remain active, compared to 72 percent of 2025 repositories. The author found that while early waves focused on chat applications and model training, recent trends in 2026 center on skills, memory, and agent managers. To help manage abandoned repositories, the author built a tool called Stars Organizer that tracks the health scores and active alternatives for starred projects. Open article →
