Decision-model tools speed up LLM agents

The author demonstrates the decision-model-as-a-tool pattern, where routine intermediate decisions in an LLM agent's workflow are delegated to a specialized decision model embedded inside a tool. By testing a customer-support agent investigating a delayed order, the author found that this hybrid setup executed investigations nearly three times faster and at a lower cost than a conventional agent making sequential tool calls directly.
