Anthropic reverses course and pays for news content for the first time

Anthropic has signed its first licensing agreement with a news publisher, partnering with the Associated Press to display live election results on Claude during the US midterm elections. Previously, Anthropic had maintained that scraping publisher content was legally permissible under fair use, unlike rival OpenAI which has secured numerous publisher deals.
