Kubernetes operator webhook checks prevent confused deputy attacks
Kubernetes operators often act as confused deputies by concentrating powerful cloud credentials while failing to verify whether namespace users are authorized for target resources. To prevent unauthorized cross-namespace or cross-service escalation, authors must perform synchronous authorization checks during admission via validating webhooks and eliminate raw scope strings from CRD schemas. Platform teams can use policy engines as stopgap measures to block raw strings and audit logs to detect potential exploitation. Open article →
