More Exchange Hacks 🪦, New ETH Client 💽, Coinbase Q3 Earnings 🔵
Kim Jong-Un's sister rejects North Korean links to $6B Binance hack (3 minute read)
Kim Yo-jong, a senior North Korean official, rejected the FBI's assessment, saying the FBI is trying to brand the country a “cyber criminal state.” Three firms, including TRM Labs, and the FBI over the weekend attributed the hack to North Korean actors. TRM says the attacker tested code on three wallets, then used EIP-7702 to turn a Binance hot wallet into a sweeper, with 50 pre-signed authorizations so one would stay valid. Earlier Monday, Binance published its first proof of reserves and said it replenished about 95% of affected assets with its own funds.
$146M Drained From Two Exchanges in 24 Hours Extends Four-Day Hack Streak (3 minute read)
Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil's largest centralized exchange, lost $40M in an exploit on November 2, while an unnamed EU-based exchange lost $106M the same day, bringing the combined single-day custodial loss to approximately $146M. Both incidents fall within a four-day window that also includes what market observers are calling the largest exploit on record, raising questions about a coordinated attack vector or shared infrastructure vulnerability across venues. The cluster puts renewed pressure on CEX hot wallet exposure and cross-jurisdictional key management practices.
Introducing Silver: Gattaca's New Ethereum Consensus Client (6 minute read)
Silver is an open-source Ethereum consensus client built from scratch. It recorded median block-processing latency of 6.5ms (5.2x faster than next-best) and p99 of 9.5ms (9.6x faster) across 20,300 canonical mainnet blocks benchmarked against Prysm, Lighthouse, and Grandine from October 17-20. The performance gains stem from Gattaca's thread-per-core, share-nothing Flux runtime with six CPU-pinned tiles, a new p2p layer supporting up to 2 Gbit/s gossip traffic, and a formally verified BLS/KZG crypto library delivering 2x+ throughput over existing implementations. Gattaca's roadmap targets EIP-8198 (Quick Slots for shorter slot times) and EIP-8292 (post-quantum attestation), with plans to publish the underlying libraries so other client teams can adopt them. Silver is currently in alpha, with audits and final testing still pending.
Consensys launches cross-ledger settlement and routing stack (2 minute read)
Launched at Devcon in Mumbai, “Sovereign Network Interoperability” lets banks settle across independently run blockchains without moving assets off their native ledgers. It covers securities settlement, collateral mobility, wholesale and cross-currency payments, and funds servicing. A Cross Ledger Interoperability Protocol built on zero-knowledge research verifies cross-ledger state cryptographically, with no bridges. An institution sets its requirements and approved counterparties, and the software picks a route, coordinates execution, and tracks the result. EVM networks are supported now, with Canton planned, and it will also support the Ethereum Economic Zone standard and IBC. The launch follows Consensys' October 8 ClearToken partnership and September split of MetaMask from its institutional business.
The Balance of Power (7 minute read)
Stripe's Link Balance converts user deposits to USDC on its Tempo chain, holds them in Privy non-custodial wallets, and liquidates back to a Lead Bank virtual card at checkout, letting merchants receive a standard Visa payment while Stripe accumulates stablecoin float. The three-step roadmap moves from card-funded to bank-transfer-funded balances, then to Stripe's Machine Payments Protocol, which routes consumer-to-merchant flows on Tempo with no Visa involvement, no interchange, and instant settlement. With 350M Link users, $1.9T in annual merchant volume, and a free open stack of Tempo (rails), OUSD via Bridge (money), and MPP (protocol), Stripe is commoditizing each payments layer while concentrating network effects at the wallet. Autonomous agents route to whatever rails are cheapest. Stripe is now using this against Visa interchange, but future entrants could apply the same logic against Stripe's own network moat.
The Next Front in the Personal Agent Wars: Consumer Finance (8 minute read)
Dedicated finance AI agents will displace general competitors like Meta's Muse and Instinct for money management, because their incentives run in opposite directions: general agents monetize via transaction fees and advertising, rewarding spending, while finance agents succeed when users save more. Licensing and fiduciary obligations compound the divide, as general agents lack the compliance infrastructure to move money, recommend investments, or manage debt. Crypto rails resolve the infrastructure gap: agent-owned wallets interact with any protocol without logins, programmable conditions enforce user limits at the wallet layer, and stablecoin settlement runs 24/7 with every action auditable on-chain. The projected end state pairs a life-concierge general agent with a finance CFO agent coordinating via agent-to-agent messaging, with US stablecoin legislation now providing a regulated on-chain rail from launch.
Coinbase Q3 Earnings (2 minute read)
Coinbase posted Q3 GAAP net income of $719M, but adjusted net income came in at $78M after stripping out $641M in unrealized gains on crypto held as a treasury asset. CFO Alesia Haas confirmed the GAAP figure reflects mark-to-market appreciation, not operational earnings. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong filed a 10b5-1 plan to sell up to 8.17M COIN shares (~$1.31B) through October 2027, with co-founder Fred Ehrsam and COO Emilie Choi entering similar plans for up to 3.87M and 1.56M shares. The pre-scheduled filings insulate executives from insider trading claims and represent a combined potential disposal of over 13.6M shares.
Agentic products are getting ahead of themselves on access (4 minute read)
Teams are racing to give agents access through virtual cards, API credentials, prepaid balances, and tokens without addressing what happens once they're inside. The harder problem is whether an LLM understands what a person asked for (intent), what the system allows (execution), and whether the two match. A payment can clear and still be the wrong purchase, and access doesn't equal authorization, which doesn't equal intent. Cards and API wrappers won't solve the problem, so teams need to understand the whole transaction lifecycle. AI makes software easier to generate but not easier to architect, and infrastructure has to be deliberate.
Plasma One free Core memberships will be downgraded to Lite Nov. 16 (1 minute read)
Plasma One users who signed up in the first seven days were promised Core free for a year.
Why agent payments are stuck (2 minute read)
Intent has no standard shape, nothing checks an agent before it pays, consumers don't trust agents (60% quit after one mistake), merchant fraud tools are built for humans, issuers approve blind, there are no cross-network liability rules, raw card vaults are a PCI gray area, agent tokens barely work (Chase won't provision), virtual card fronting is expensive and networks dislike it, and agents still can't monetize.
Binance completes latest proof of reserves to verify user balances (3 minute read)
Binance completed a zero-knowledge proof of reserves covering BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, USDC, XRP, USD1, RLUSD, and ZEC, so users can verify balances are backed 1:1.
